TOPIC: Floattubers Gauteng - Leg 6 - Witbank Dam

Floattubers Gauteng - Leg 6 - Witbank Dam 8 months 2 weeks ago #167

This past Saturday we had our 6th leg of the SABAA NSCL at Maanlig resort Witbank dam.

Conditions were crap to say the least, massive high pressure system, full moon and 330cubes of fresh water coming into the dam.

34 anglers competed and 17 managed yo get fish where only 5 made bag limit of 5 fish.

Despite the horrible conditions, it seemed like the bite turned on after 12. Vaughn Kendall managed a 2.88kg or 55cm slab and took biggest fish.
Top 5:

1st Ettiene Griessel
2nd Tian v Jaarsveld
3rd Henrico v Rooyen
4th Dylan Wheeler
5th Rowan Maree

Damn! So even with his slab, Vaughn didn't even come in the top 5? What were the final weights and scores?

In the SABAA small craft league we work according to length and not weight anymore.

Okay lekker... So you are using the CPR method? Is this method working really well?

Perhaps you could do a brief write up for the forum on how you have implemented it and what nuances to be on the lookout for?

I for one have always thought it was a less stress on fish method.

Yes the CPR (Catch, Photo, Release) is an amazing system. We issue troughs with a measurement in cm. So very basic. Once you land your fish, You put it in the trough, back upward, mouth 100% closed and you take a clear photo of the whole fish. We issue a tag on the day which every angler wears around his arm, which also need to be visible. And obviously the tails need to be clear.
We measure in .5cm increments. Once this is done, which shouldn't take more than a minute to do, the fish is released at the same spot where it has been caught. No more sitting in a follow me bag or livewell for hours on end.
